The Angel Care Foundation will launch the Angel Blanket Initiative in Sierra Leone on 22 October 2026. This health project is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. At the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown. The event marks a significant expansion of the organisation’s philanthropic efforts within the region, bringing together local health officials and representatives from the foundation to inaugurate the program.
Foundation Mission and Goals
The Angel Care Foundation operates as a United States-based philanthropic organisation. It was established in 2020. Since its inception, the group has structured its operations around providing targeted assistance to vulnerable populations, with a specific focus on pediatric health and early-stage infant support.
Current objectives for the group focus on large-scale health support for infants. The Angel Care Foundation aims to distribute one million blankets to newborn babies across Africa within five years. By focusing on this specific metric, the organisation intends to ensure that a substantial number of infants receive essential resources during their first days of life. The foundation has dedicated significant logistical resources toward achieving this five-year goal, coordinating with various regional partners to facilitate the movement and storage of these materials.
Initiative Logistics and Distribution
Participating healthcare facilities will distribute 100 per cent cotton blankets to newborns upon discharge as part of the Angel Care Foundation project. These supplies are intended to provide immediate support to infants leaving medical care. The choice of 100 per cent cotton material was made to ensure that the blankets meet quality standards for newborn use, providing comfort and warmth as families transition from a clinical environment back to their homes.
Officials have designated 'One Blanket. One Baby. One Message of Unity.' as the official theme for the initiative. This branding will appear on all materials associated with the distribution process. The theme is intended to serve as a consistent identifier for the program, reflecting the foundation's core philosophy of providing uniform support across different geographic locations. Every blanket distributed will carry this message, reinforcing the connection between the foundation and the families receiving the aid.
Sierra Leone serves as the second African country to benefit from this health project. This rollout follows a previous launch in Accra, Ghana, which occurred on 25 June 2026. The success of the initial launch in Accra provided the operational framework necessary for the upcoming expansion into Freetown. By utilizing the lessons learned from the project’s introduction in Ghana, the Angel Care Foundation intends to streamline the distribution process in Sierra Leone. The selection of Sierra Leone as the second site reflects the foundation's strategic approach to scaling its operations across the continent. Future distribution phases will continue to rely on the established network of healthcare facilities to ensure that the 100 per cent cotton blankets reach the intended recipients efficiently and securely. The Angel Care Foundation continues to monitor the progress of the initiative to ensure that the distribution remains consistent with the project's stated goals and the overarching mission of the organisation.
